Recruitment for September 2024 is open

Our Bishop Rawstorne ITT (Initial Teacher Training) Programme

As part of our continuous improvement cycle, we offer a bespoke School-Based programme.

With a close knit community of partner schools, who are all committed to supporting you in achieving the best possible outcomes throughout your training year, Red Rose Teaching School Alliance works collaboratively with the University of Cumbria, who support our Bishop Rawstorne School-Based programme and allow us to offer the masters level credits needed to secure the award of a PGCE. The School-Based programme offers you a wider variety of placement experiences and school based training.

The secondary schools that we are fortunate enough to offer as placement schools, apart from ourselves, for the 2024-2025 programme include: Penwortham Girls' High School, Balshaw's Church of England High School, St. Michael's Church of England High School, Lostock Hall Academy, Brownedge St Mary's Catholic High School and Parklands High School.

The Application Process

Application

Bishop Rawstorne Church of England Academy and the University provider will receive your application from UCAS after your references have been uploaded.  They will assess your suitability and then decide on potential applications.  If you are unsuccessful at this stage, the university will relay this decision via the UCAS track facility.

Interview

Successful applicants will be invited to Bishop Rawstorne for an interview. This interview will include a subject knowledge evaluation,  a subject knowledge presentation, interview and a literacy and/or numeracy test. Please note that given the current circumstances, this process is now being conducted remotely.

Offer

You will either be offered a conditional or unconditional place on our School Direct programme. All offers are subject to DBS and medical checks and may be made conditional on other factors; these may include: successful completion of your degree, or production of original examination certificates, to name some examples.

Fundamental Mathematics and English

Applicants for initial teacher training (ITT) are required to demonstrate competence in fundamental English and mathematics before the award of qualified teacher status can be made.
